The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slapped a $30,000 fine on Benin for displaying misconduct during a 2025 AFCON qualifying game against Rwanda in October.
The Squirrels succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Rwanda’s Amavubi during the clash at the Amahoro Stadium on October 15, 2024.
Players and technical team members of the Benin national team stormed the field at the final whistle and launched attacks at Malagasy center referee Rakotojaona Andofetra.
The misconduct was captured in the Match Commissioner’s report as well as that of the referee and CAF has ultimately taken action to punish the West African nation.
Despite the defeat Benin managed to book qualification to the tournament which will be hosted by Morocco later this year. Rwanda narrowly missed out on qualification to the event.
